2025/03/18

Kiva Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuta Isozaki; hereafter "Kiva"), provider of the web accessibility tool "UniWeb", conducted a survey on the awareness of the "outstretched arms humanoid symbol" for web accessibility, and found that the awareness rate of the "outstretched arms humanoid symbol" was 5%.

Background of the Survey

Kiva Corporation has developed a web accessibility tool called "UniWeb," which provides a variety of useful aids for browsing websites. Although similar functions are available on iPhones and other devices, in order to use web accessibility features, users must press the "human-shaped mark with open arms" (web accessibility mark) on the site or settings page to set up and use the service. However, in our daily work we have often felt that this mark itself is not well recognized, and as a result we are conscious that the people who need our services may not be fully reached.

We have conducted this survey in order to accurately determine the level of awareness of the Web Accessibility Mark, and to develop measures to increase awareness of the mark in the future.

■Survey Results Summary

  • 5% of all respondents know the meaning of the "human-shaped mark with outstretched arms.
  • The most frequently cited places where the Web Accessibility Mark can be found are "PC and smartphone setting screens," "train stations and airports," "Web browser setting menus," and "corporate websites.
